Essential Oils for Winter: Staying Healthy & Energized

Winter often brings challenges such as feeling under the weather, low energy and a sense of imbalance. The colder temperatures, shorter days, and holiday demands can impact both physical and emotional well-being.

To help you navigate the season with ease, I’m sharing some winter wellness tips to support your vitality, energy, and balance. Essential oils are natural tools that can enhance your self-care routine and help you create a supportive environment during these colder months.

1. Support Your Wellness Naturally

Winter is a time for colds, flus and other illnesses. Essential oils are a powerful tools that can support a healthy immune response.

Recommended oils:

  • On Guard - This is a great essential oil to use for protective immune support. Diffuse it in your home or apply it topically to your chest, throat or the bottom of your feet. When taken internally it supports a healthy immune system.

  • Tea Tree (Melaleuca) - This oil is known for its cleanings and purifying properties. Apply it topically to provide soothing support to the throat. Diffuse to purify the air and promote a clean, invigorating space.

  • Eucalyptus - This is the essential oil of wellness. Eucalyptus is known for its refreshing and invigorating aroma, making it a favorite for promoting a sense of clarity and freshness. Diffuse in your home to create a clean and energizing environment or dilute with a carrier oil and apply to the chest or neck area for a cooling sensation.

2. Stay Energize During the Shorter Days

The darker, colder days of winter can sometimes lead to sluggishness. Essential oils can help uplift your mood and create an energizing environment.

Recommended Oils:

  • Peppermint: A stimulating oil that can promote a sense of alertness. Diffuse it in the morning or dilute it with a carrier oil and apply it to your temples for a refreshing sensation.

  • Wild Orange: This bright, citrusy oil has an uplifting aroma that can help promote a cheerful and energized mood. Add a drop of wild orange and peppermint to your hand, rub together. Cup your hands over your mouth and breathe in the aroma for a quick pick me up.

  • Lemon: Lemon oil has an invigorating scent that helps create a positive environment. Diffuse it to improve mood, increase alertness and cleanse your space.

3. Soothe Winter Skin and Stay Hydrated

The dry winter air can be tough on your skin. Essential oils, combined with nourishing carrier oils, can help support hydration and comfort.

Recommended Oils:

  • Lavender: Known for its calming scent, Lavender is wonderful for creating a relaxing skincare ritual. Blend it with a carrier oil like coconut oil to moisturize dry patches.

  • Frankincense: A favorite for rejuvenating and nourishing the skin, Frankincense also offers a grounding aroma to promote emotional balance. Apply it to dōTERRA’s hand and body lotion to create a wonderful skin nourishing self-care routine.

  • Geranium: This oil is cherished for helping maintain the skin’s natural moisture balance.

Tip: Make a DIY skin serum with Lavender, Frankincense and Geranium combined with a carrier oil for soft, hydrated skin during winter months.

4. Support Emotional Balance During Winter

The winter season can sometimes feel overwhelming or bring on seasonal sadness. Essential oils can help create a calming and uplifting environment to support your emotional well-being.

Recommended Oils:

  • Lemon: Lemon’s clean, crisp scent can help uplift the atmosphere and promote a sense of clarity. Diffuse it in your room or add a drop to water first thing in the morning.
